I recently wrote a blog post for EKG Nutrition, and I loved it so much I wanted to share it here. The beginning is written out below, but follow the link to get the rest.
It’s that time of year again. When everyone is making their New Year’s resolutions. There can be a lot of beauty to the seasons, but this is one seasonal trend that makes me crazy. We go from one end of the spectrum during the holidays – it’s all indulgence, hands in the air, out of control – then swing HARD to the other end in January – all about denial, self-control, restriction. I wish we could find a way to live a little more balanced. Because this yo-yo way of living is harming you, both mentally and physically.
We’ve already talked about the insane failure rate of diets. At MINIMUM, 90% of diets fail. Nearly half of Americans resolve to lose weight each January. Add to that the estimation that 80% of New Year’s resolutions fail before February*. There’s a lot of “whomp whomp” going on here. In other words, the system we choose to live in is setting us up for failure.
And I’m pretty sure that your resolution for 2019 isn’t to fail.
